Need to have an override property file to prevent wipe of customized settings

With higher volume customers it is common to require customization to property files, especially engine.properties and Engine.log4j.  However, with application of an iFix or FixPack (or upgrade), there is a risk that these settings will be lost.  B2B Integrator has the concept of an 'overrides' property file, called customer_overrides.properties.  This file remains untouched by any iFix, FixPack or upgrade.  The benefit of this is that for those properties that are overwritten as part of the iFix, FixPack or Upgrade, there are customizations that should remain.  ICC has this concept for its java.security property file separate from the one in the JRE directory.  I'm looking for an extension of that concept to have a property file accessible either through command line and edit it there for older versions of ICC or accessible within the web console in XML form in higher versions of ICC.  Some properties of course will not lend themselves well to an override scheme and that is understood.  But for those that do, being able to customize without risk of overwrite saves time when applying iFixes, Fix Packs and upgrades.

Administrative users can customize properties in a separate overrides.xml file based on the property file represented.  The list of potential property files to edit is short, and some properties may have to be customized directly due to how Control Center and Cognos start and how they read.  Today, every property is subject to this.

    Code has been added already to preserve the contents of engine.properties when an upgrade is done. Similarly, provisions have been made to preserve maximum heap, and other settings when upgrades are performed.

    We are still enhancing the code in this area, so if you could provide some specifics on settings you've lost in the past, we would love to make the improvements that would both benefit you, and all other Control Center customers. Please get back to me on this as soon as you are able.
