Extensions to Compress with Connect:Direct

Our clients who are transferring from Connect:Direct are using windows.
However, because of the smaller lrecl of the file being transferred, it will not be compressed for the following third specification:

1) CD z/OS to CD z/OS transfer will be in block mode.
2) CD z/OS to CD i5/OS transfer will be in block mode.
3) CD z/OS to all other platforms will be in record mode.

It is strongly expected that the block mode will be improved to apply to windws.
Alternatively, lower the lower limit of the values that can be specified in SYS1.PARMLIB (IQPPRMxx) to be less than 4mb.

What is your industry? Industrial Products
How will this idea be used?

The customer's CD for z/os is routed to the zEDC because 99 % is the windows terminal, but lrecl is less than 4mb.
The improvement will result in CDs being subject to compression.

Thank you for your patience as we worked on this enhancement request.  I'm pleased to announced that we releases v6.0 on 12/7/18 which includes an enhancement called ZLIB buffering which allows more files to be eligible for zEDC compression.  Please visit our download portal to grab the latest version so you can leverage these benefits.

    Sincerely,

    Chris Sanders

Thank you for opening this enhancement request with IBM.  I have reviewed it with my team and we believe that it would be valuable to decrease minimum file size that compression could be performed on.  I have accepted this as an uncommitted candidate and we will look to add it to our roadmap moving forward.

    Sincerely,

    Chris Sanders
