Add Audit Log Capabilities to File Agent

For Stand alone and Integrated File Agent, some kind of auditing feature needs to be added. Currently messages are created showing that the configuration has been updated, but what in the configuration was updated? This is what shops need to know.

What is your industry? Non-Industry Specific
How will this idea be used?

Provide more detail as to what items within the File Agent configuration were updated.

We are looking for more detail as to what exactly was changed. Just telling us that the configuration was updated is insufficient. Thanks.

    Hi Brian,

After reviewing this internally with development, we have some follow-up questions to gather more details.

At runtime, File Agent(FA) monitors its config file. If the file was touched or updated, FA logs “Configuration file is modified”, verifies the new config and reloads it. FA is not aware of what has been modified. When the config file is changed while FA is stopped, there is no such log message, obviously.

One option could be to enhance FA to dump the (new) config every time it is loaded, but this could flood the FA logs, especially with large configurations.

But before going down that option we would like to understand if you are just looking for details of the update? In which case the Stats message could include a sub-object and identifier, e.g Rule plus name or number to identify it?

Can you please share more details on the observation above? Thanks and appreciate your inputs.

    Regards,

    Product Management
