Fix a bug which IBM support is not accepting as a bug

Problem:

Any CD Windows v6 client or Requestor is impacted. When a lower case process name job is submitted, via the v6 client or requestor, the process name is automatically converted to uppercase and the job is submitted. While the same process name in lower case is rejected when selecting statistics.

I think our ask is not clear to IBM support who say this is a change in functionality. We are not asking to change the functionality. We are ok with it being case-sensitive or whatever.

But when the CD server accepts a lowercase process by automatically converting it to uppercase and submitting it, then the same CD server should also return statistics for the lower case process by automatically converting it to upper case, logical right?

If that's not feasible, then the lower case process should not even be accepted for submission in the first place and we can tell our customers that Connect Direct only accepts uppercase process names.

What is your industry? Insurance
How will this idea be used?

It's an illogical bug, so please fix it. You support team doesn't accept this as a bug and asked to raise an idea here.

Thank you for opening this enhancement request with us. I have reviewed it with our team and unfortunately we won't be able to treat your request as a bug. This stems from differences between how different operating systems handle case sensitivity. At the OS level Windows typically isn't case-sensitive, but UNIX, z/OS and other platforms are.

C:D must support multiple platforms on the back end which is what drives the need to only support upper case process names to ensure that dissimilar platforms can communicate with each other. This is what drives conversion of processes with lower case process names to upper case which is done as a courtesy to correct invalid inputs. We unfortunately won't be able to deliver this enhancement request because of that.

    Sincerely,

    Chris Sanders
