File Agent doesn’t support Certificate-based authentication, it will be difficult for us to manage the passwords on File Agent authentications.

We have around 35,000 Connect:Direct nodes and File Agents will be deployed across all the stores. We have a password policy where the passwords are going to expire every 90 days, Maintenance of these many nodes will be a tedious task. Switching to certificates would reduce our effort on Connect:Direct but since File Agent doesn’t support Certificate-based authentication, it will be difficult for us to manage the passwords on File Agent Configurations.

What is your industry? Computer Services
How will this idea be used?

It will be used for us to maintain security with certificates without managing the bulk passwords.

Thank you for your patience as we worked on this enhancement. I'm pleased to announce that this has been provided in File Agent v1.4.0.1 which is available on IBM's Fix Central website. Please download and apply this maintenance which will allow you to start leveraging certificate authentication with File Agent. I've also included a link below to the FA documentation which has been updated to cover the new capability.

Thank you for opening this enhancement request with IBM.  I have reviewed it with my team and believe this would be a valuable enhancement to Connect:Direct.  I will accept this request to make improvements to the password maintenance activities needed for File Agent.  We may not use the exact design that you have suggested, but will look to incorporate some of the features as we simplify password maintenance efforts.  This has been accepted as an uncommitted candidate and I will look to add it to your roadmap moving forward.

    Sincerely,

Allow the Connect:Direct File Agent to use certificates for authentication

Merged
Using certificates would remove the need to manage passwords and keep them synced with local accounts. There was an update to the API to allow secure+ certificates to be used for authentication. I believe the same concept can be used for File Agents.
