IBM Sterling Ideas

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

IBM is transforming its request for enhancement (RFE) process. The purpose of the transformation is to provide a more consistent experience for you to submit requests and to enable IBM product owners to respond to your requests more quickly. For more information click here.

Start by posting ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,
1. Post an idea
2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you
3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea

Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The offering manager team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notifications on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Single Codelist entry to retrieve data between a range

Problem Statement: Codelist entries are not support for range like (1,100) we need to create every entry with same values TEXT1,TEXT2,…TEXT9 and description for 1-100 with hundred entries. Which will increase the size of the codelist.

1st entry 2nd entry …… 100th entry

<CODE_LIST_XREF_ITEM>

<SENDER_ITEM>1</SENDER_ITEM>

<RECEIVER_ITEM>1</RECEIVER_ITEM>

<TEXT1>TXT1</TEXT1>

<TEXT2></TEXT2>

<TEXT3/>

<TEXT4/>

<TEXT5/>

<TEXT6/>

<TEXT7/>

<TEXT8/>

<TEXT9/>

<DESCRIPTION>DES</DESCRIPTION>

</CODE_LIST_XREF_ITEM>

<CODE_LIST_XREF_ITEM>

<SENDER_ITEM>2</SENDER_ITEM>

<RECEIVER_ITEM>2</RECEIVER_ITEM>

<TEXT1>TXT2</TEXT1>

<TEXT2></TEXT2>

<TEXT3/>

<TEXT4/>

<TEXT5/>

<TEXT6/>

<TEXT7/>

<TEXT8/>

<TEXT9/>

<DESCRIPTION>DES</DESCRIPTION>

</CODE_LIST_XREF_ITEM>

<CODE_LIST_XREF_ITEM>

<SENDER_ITEM>100</SENDER_ITEM>

<RECEIVER_ITEM>100</RECEIVER_ITEM>

<TEXT1>TXT100</TEXT1>

<TEXT2></TEXT2>

<TEXT3/>

<TEXT4/>

<TEXT5/>

<TEXT6/>

<TEXT7/>

<TEXT8/>

<TEXT9/>

<DESCRIPTION>DES</DESCRIPTION>

</CODE_LIST_XREF_ITEM>

Proposed solution:

  • We need to use below SQL command to fetch the values in between the range.

SELECT Text1 FROM Codelist WHERE Name = "Codelist" and BETWEEN lower_value AND upper_value;

  • ii) Currently we are using sender or receiver as a lookup. Now, We need add range as a new lookup parameter.

Codelist Entry 1 : If lookup values is 8 the it will pick the 1st entry. If lookup values is 111 the it will pick the 2nd entry.

<CODE_LIST_XREF_ITEM>

<SENDER_ITEM>A</SENDER_ITEM>

<RECEIVER_ITEM>A</RECEIVER_ITEM>

<Lowervalue>1</Lowervalue>

<Uppervalue>100</Uppervalue>

<TEXT1>TXT1</TEXT1>

<TEXT2></TEXT2>

<TEXT3/>

<TEXT4/>

<TEXT5/>

<TEXT6/>

<TEXT7/>

<TEXT8/>

<TEXT9/>

<DESCRIPTION>DES</DESCRIPTION>

</CODE_LIST_XREF_ITEM>

Codelist Entry 2 :

<CODE_LIST_XREF_ITEM>

<SENDER_ITEM>.B</SENDER_ITEM>

<RECEIVER_ITEM>B</RECEIVER_ITEM>

<Lowervalue>1</Lowervalue>

<Uppervalue>100</Uppervalue>

<TEXT1>TXT2</TEXT1>

<TEXT2></TEXT2>

<TEXT3/>

<TEXT4/>

<TEXT5/>

<TEXT6/>

<TEXT7/>

<TEXT8/>

<TEXT9/>

<DESCRIPTION>DES2</DESCRIPTION>

</CODE_LIST_XREF_ITEM>

How will this idea be used?

Base on the above mention proposal no need to create multiple entries in the codelists. So number of entries will be less, size of the codelist will be reduced and processing time for translation to find the value in codelist will be minimized.

What is your industry? Retail
What is the idea priority? Medium

    Thank you for participating in the request for enhancement community. Your input is valuable in shaping the roadmap for the product. While we agree that this idea would add value, it is not something we are able to assign priority to at this time. In general, when accepting an idea, we strive to deliver the enhancement within 18 months. We will continue to monitor this enhancement for interest, feel free to re-enter the idea in 12 months to see if priorities have shifted. If you have any additional questions or concerns please reach out.
