Supply Chain Collaboration Community and the Order Management Interest Group
We have a security requirement to use expiring PGP keys and change them every few years. Since Sterling only supports a single PGP key per community all of our trading partners have to change their jobs at the same time in order to use our new PGP key. This is nearly impossible to coordinate and inevitably results in failures when some systems do not make the change on time or other systems make the change too early.
We should be able to specify more than one key and have the option for the PGP unpackage process to try both keys before failing with an error. That would allow us to gracefully change PGP keys over a period of time, giving all of our partners the opportunity to make their changes.
How will this idea be used?
When generating new keys, both keys will be added to the keyring and configured in filegateway for the community. Partners will be given a certain time period during which both the new and old key will be valid to make their changes, after which time the old key will be removed. During the time that both keys are configured Sterling should attempt decryption using both keys.
