Replace LOBs with SecureFiles on Oracle

Current Situation:

The current implemntation of IBM SI is using Oracle LOB Datatypes to store payload as well as metainformation like process data. The storage management of LOB datatypes by Oracle is not reorganization free. To avoid DB-lock situations this redefinition run's practicaly can only be done while all SI Servers are down.

In high volume environments like ours this contradicts with typical 24/7 requirements.

Oracle Solution SecureFiles:

Oracle noticed the demand for enhanced Lob management and introduced SecureFile Datatypes with Oracle version 11.1 to replace the former Lob approach completly.

The scope of this enhancement is

- Improve performance of read/write activities
- Hazard free physical organization with no need for redefinition runs
- Add capabilities like compression, deduplication and encryption

According to various DBA Exchange portals, the day-to-day experience with SecureFiles is positive. Promises are met and the concept is proven to be stable.
